"Good night, sunshine!" you say, turning off the light.

And five minutes later you hear: “Mom, I’m thirsty!”, “Dad, there’s a monster under the bed!” Sound familiar?

Perhaps your evening ritual is to blame. Many parents make a fatal mistake: before going to bed, they allow their child to watch cartoons, play on a tablet, or eat sweets.

The blue screen of gadgets suppresses the production of melatonin, the sleep hormone. The child falls asleep with difficulty, wakes up often, and gets up irritable in the morning.

Instead of cartoons, try a "ritual of silence": an hour before bed, turn off the TV, dim the lights, read a book or talk about what good happened during the day. Another secret is "slow breathing".
