A hedge for pennies: an aggressive plant that will create an impenetrable wall in a year (but the neighbors hate it)
Purple willow 'Nana' is the only plant that can create a dense hedge in a month that will hide the area from prying eyes.
Place 30 cm long cuttings into moist soil at a 45° angle, leaving 20 cm between them.
After 3 weeks, roots will appear, and after two months the height of the wall will reach 1.5 meters.
But anyone who chooses this plant to create a hedge on their property should be careful.
Willow roots secrete allelopathic substances that suppress the growth of neighboring plants. To save flowers and vegetables, plant them no closer than 3 meters from the fence.
To neutralize toxins, add charcoal to the soil - it works as a filter.
If the willow has gotten out of control, you will have to resort to emergency growth arrest.
To do this, dig in copper plates around the perimeter - copper ions block root development.
Alternative plant:
- Sakhalin knotweed: grows up to 4 meters per season, but its leaves attract slugs.
- Clematis tangutsis: a liana with strong growth, but requires support.
What about the neighbors?
In order not to spoil relations with the owners of the neighboring plot, suggest that they plant ornamental beans on their side of the fence - it will not only camouflage the wall, but will also produce a harvest.
