Which method of covering grapes for the winter to choose: rely on the experience of other summer residents

Grapes are heat-loving crops. This means that they need to be covered for the winter.

According to the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, for this you can choose one of several existing methods.

Dry method

This option is worth choosing for those gardeners who live in regions with mild winters. It involves laying the vines on a covering material, which can be spruce branches, straw or sawdust, and applying the same layer on top.

Air-dry method

In this case, the grapevine is also laid on a layer of spruce branches, straw or sawdust, but on top of it, frames made of wood or plastic are erected, which must be covered with film or agrofibre.

Covering with earth (snow)

This method can be used in regions with cold winters. To do this, you need to bend the vine to the ground and throw soil or snow on top of it. The layer thickness should be 20-30 cm. The soil does not need to be compacted, and the snow needs to be tamped down a little.
