Coffee Maker vs. Health: Which Coffee Brewing Methods Are Considered Dangerous

Few people think that the morning ritual with coffee can hide a threat.

Scientists from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, after 20 years of monitoring half a million volunteers, have found that some popular methods of preparing the drink increase health risks.

It turns out that not all brewing methods are equally safe.

Professor Doug Telle , who led the study, said French press coffee contains substances that raise levels of 'bad' cholesterol.

The reason is the prolonged contact of ground beans with water, which causes diterpenes to enter the drink.

These compounds negatively affect lipid metabolism, increasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Turkish coffee

The traditional method of brewing in a Turk or cezve also made it onto the risky list. Fine grinding and lack of filtration leave particles in the drink that can provoke inflammatory processes.

Scientists recommend additionally filtering such coffee through a paper filter - this reduces the concentration of harmful components.

Unfiltered coffee

The data analysis showed that unfiltered coffee drinkers had a 15% higher risk of early death, while those who drank up to 4 cups of filtered coffee per day had lower rates.

Researchers attribute this to the fact that the paper filter retains up to 80% of hazardous substances, preserving the aroma and benefits of coffee without harming health.

The conclusion is simple: the choice of brewing method can turn a daily ritual into self-care. Or, on the contrary, into a hidden threat.
