Heartburn

A recent study showed that most people who gave up alcohol or at least reduced its consumption did not experience digestive problems.

In turn, doctors named some of the most typical negative consequences of alcohol on the digestive tract.

Thus, according to them, drinking alcoholic beverages often leads to heartburn.

And it can be accompanied by coughing, pain and other symptoms caused by reflux.

The latter is especially common in those who regularly drink acidic drinks, such as wine or cider.

Inflammation and bleeding

Doctors warn: sometimes even one small dose of alcohol is enough to cause inflammation of the gastric mucosa.

In such cases, people complain of nausea, pain, and other discomfort in the abdomen. Moreover, all this lasts for one or two days.

Alcohol can also cause bleeding in the digestive tract, leading to gas and bloating.

Intestines

Intestinal dysfunction is another extremely unpleasant consequence of drinking alcohol.

This phenomenon can lead to diarrhea. But at the same time, alcohol can have the opposite effect - cause constipation.

In addition, alcohol in some cases causes or worsens lactose intolerance.

Alcohol is also a common cause of intestinal permeability, which allows toxins from the gut to enter the bloodstream, leading to inflammation throughout the body.

One of the most detrimental consequences of this scenario is the increased risk of liver disease.

Cancer

Even cancer can be caused by alcohol – at least seven types of cancer.

It has been proven that alcohol provokes cancer of the oral cavity, throat, liver, esophagus, colon and rectum, among other things.
