Scientists decided to find out how children choose their profession, and at the same time assessed the influence of genes on this choice.
The research was initiated by staff at the J. J. Peters Medical Center.
Scientists have studied the influence of genetics on the issue of children's choice of profession, and have come to a surprising conclusion, writes the scientific publication Nature Human Behaviour.

The experts analyzed data from more than 420,000 people. They were obtained from biobanks in the US and UK.
What was found out?
The researchers did not deny the existence of a genetic predisposition in a child’s choice of a particular specialty.
However, the connection was described as extremely weak.
Meanwhile, interesting conclusions were made.
It turns out that even with a slight genetic predisposition to autism spectrum disorders, children chose a field of activity related to art or mathematics.
However, this is no more than 0.4% of all cases.
What matters
Much more important in choosing a profession is:
- age,
- floor,
- education,
- living conditions.
Conclusion
In their research, scientists did not try to find a way to predict a person's future based on genes.
It is believed that genetics determines only general tendencies, and a person's path of development depends on a number of factors.
