The process of preparing such an ordinary product as pasta causes a lot of controversy among chefs.

One of the most debated issues is whether or not to rinse cooked pasta.

Let's find out what the expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", chef Yulia Arkhipova, thinks about this.

Does pasta need rinsing?

Many inexperienced cooks follow the directions on pasta packages, which often recommend rinsing the product in cold water.

This needs to be done in order to prevent them from sticking together.

But, according to professionals, this practice is a gross mistake that should be stopped, since washed pasta loses its taste and becomes a “spoiled side dish.”

Starch is your friend

Starch is indeed to blame for the fact that pasta “sticks together” in the pan.

But at the same time, the same starch significantly improves the taste of the finished dish.

When is it worth rinsing pasta?

There is an exception to this rule, as with any other.

If you plan to use the pasta in a cold dish, such as a salad, it is really worth rinsing it under running water. This will prevent sticking and the dish will definitely not turn into "mush".
