Do you arrange your furniture according to the principle “so that everything fits”, and then wonder why there is no air in the room?
You are not alone. Most people repeat the same mistakes, turning their apartment into a labyrinth of sofas and closets.
But there are five mistakes that most often ruin an interior - and now you will understand how to avoid them.

The first mistake is to put all the furniture against the walls. It seems that this frees up the center, but in reality the room becomes like a gym: emptiness in the middle and chaos at the edges.
Try moving the sofa 30 cm away from the window - suddenly there will be room for a floor lamp or a narrow console. Zoning works better than fear of free space.
The second problem is gigantomania. A huge corner sofa in a small living room does not make it more comfortable - it steals meters and light.
Furniture should match the scale of the room. For example, instead of a massive dining table for six, choose a compact model with sliding mechanisms. And if the closet rests on the ceiling, it turns the bedroom into a warehouse - it is better to have several low chests of drawers that do not visually oppress.
The third mistake is to ignore the flow of traffic. When you have to go around a chair, a table, and a palm plant to get from the door to the window, the interior becomes an obstacle course.
Leave at least 70 cm between objects for comfortable passage. Check: if you move around the room in a straight line, and not in a zigzag, the arrangement is correct.
The fourth mistake is twin furniture. Two identical sofas opposite each other, paired bedside tables, symmetrical armchairs - this is not harmony, this is boredom.
Mix up the shapes: a round table next to a square sofa, a tall cabinet and a low pedestal. Asymmetry enlivens the space, even if you're a fan of order.
The fifth mistake is forgetting about the purpose of the room. A desk in the bedroom interferes with sleep, and bookshelves in the dining room distract from eating.
Each room should have one main zone. For example, in the living room, it is the sofa and TV zone, not the sewing machine next to the TV. If you want to combine functions, use screens or light separation.
The sixth mistake is a rug the size of a handkerchief. A small rug in the middle of the room does not unite the furniture, but emphasizes disunity. Ideally, when the edges of the rug are under the legs of the sofa and armchairs - this creates a single area.
The seventh sin is useless corners. Empty space in the corner is not a disadvantage, but an opportunity. A narrow bookshelf, a tall plant, a floor lamp on a thin leg - these elements will make the eye slide around the room, rather than resting on emptiness.
Fixing these mistakes is easier than it seems. Move the sofa, remove the extra chair, change the carpet - and you will be surprised how your home will be transformed. After all, furniture should work for you, not you for it.
