There is an opinion that buckwheat is good for weight loss, but potatoes are not.

However, in reality, potatoes are not only not inferior to buckwheat, but also surpass it in some parameters.

Russian nutritionist Yulia Khlopova spoke about this.

An expert explained why potatoes are healthier than buckwheat for weight loss in a conversation with Life.ru.

What is better for weight loss: potatoes or buckwheat

As Khlopova explained, many people refuse to eat potatoes because of the starch in them, but it is this starch that turns into an advantage when cooked correctly.

After cooking and cooling, the expert explained, the starch becomes resistant.

This starch improves intestinal microflora. Potatoes are also rich in fiber, vitamin C and potassium.

Buckwheat, in turn, is rich in vegetable protein, B vitamins, iron and magnesium. But it also has its downsides.

A serving of buckwheat often contains more calories than potatoes, the nutritionist noted.

Secondly, buckwheat, unlike potatoes, does not contain substances that directly improve intestinal microflora.

In addition, when comparing the two products, potatoes win due to their higher satiety index.

Buckwheat is also more difficult to combine with various products, the expert added.
