Currants are stubborn and not yielding a harvest? You are trampling its most important part

The currant bushes have grown to almost two meters, but there are almost no berries? You have trampled its roots.

Currants bear fruit only with superficial roots, which suffer from compacted soil.

The secret of a rich harvest

Loosen the soil with a pitchfork, not a shovel, and mulch the tree trunk circle with compost.

But that's not all. Red currants hate the proximity of black currants - they oppress each other. Separate them by at least 3 meters.

And if the leaves are covered with spots, it is not a disease - it is hunger. Spray the bush with iodine solution (10 drops per bucket of water) and sprinkle the soil with onion peel.

To increase the harvest, bend the branches to the ground and bury their ends - in a year you will get new bushes by layering. And do not prune the currants in the fall! The wounds will not have time to heal, and the bush will freeze.

Other secrets

For example, currants love potato peelings. Bury them under the bush - starch stimulates the growth of berries.

To scare away the moth, hang jars of tar on the branches.

If the bush is attacked by aphids, spray it with whey - the acidic environment will kill the pests.

Pruning is critical for blackcurrant. Leave 4-5 young shoots each year, and cut old ones (over 5 years old) to the root.

And don't let the bush thicken - the light should penetrate into the center. And form the red currant into a bowl, removing the branches growing inward.

Currants do not tolerate drought.

Water it once a week, pouring 2 buckets of water under the bush. But do not pour it on the leaves - this provokes powdery mildew.
