Don't Throw Away That Seed Packet: How to Revive Expired Seeds in 2 Hours and Get 100% Germination

Have you been told that seeds older than three years are dead weight? Don't believe it.

Sellers hide the fact that hydrogen peroxide from the pharmacy can bring back to life even ten-year-old grains.

Soak the seeds in a solution (1 teaspoon of peroxide per glass of water) for 2 hours.

Oxygen will destroy the growth inhibitors and the shell will crack. Then rinse them in a weak solution of potassium permanganate - this will kill the mold spores. By the way, if traces of mold are visible to the naked eye, then just soak them in pure peroxide for 10 minutes, then dry in the sun.

Plant immediately: these seeds germinate 3 days faster than fresh ones.

Gardener Semyon from Smolensk tested the life hack on petunias from 2015: out of 10 seeds, 9 sprouted.

But don't soak pumpkin and squash seeds - their skins are too thick.

And remember: the method only works at temperatures above +15°C. If it is cold in the house, warm the beans on the radiator before soaking.

For carrots and celery, add a teaspoon of honey to the solution - it will soften the essential oils in the shell.

Expired flower seeds (such as marigolds) will come back to life if you add a pinch of baking soda to the water.

And for legumes, use carbonated mineral water instead of peroxide - carbon dioxide will speed up awakening.

But never use the method for seeds that have been stored for more than 10 years - they are, alas, hopeless. And do not keep the grains in the solution for more than 3 hours: they will get soaked and rot in the ground.
