Experienced gardeners know: winter is not a time for rest. But in addition to all other things, the stage of active preparation for the new season has arrived.
In particular, it is high time to choose seeds. Particular attention should be paid to beets, the "queen" of borscht.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh recommended three proven varieties for sowing this year.

The Bordeaux 237 variety has long been considered one of the most reliable. It is not surprising that many summer residents prefer it.
The ripening period is 120 days, the weight of the fruits is from 250 to 480 grams.
By the way, the flesh of these fruits (without rings) is a rich burgundy color.
This type of beetroot is particularly sweet and juicy, and it is stored well in winter without losing its taste.
As for the yield, many gardeners get up to 8 kilos from 1 square meter.
The variety "Cylindra" is named so due to the cylindrical shape of the fruits, which ripen in 120-130 days.
They can reach 16 centimeters in length and 6 to 10 centimeters in diameter. They weigh 180 to 150 grams.
Distinguishing features: the variety is resistant to diseases, drought and frost, the pulp of the fruit (without rings) is sweet.
The harvest can be stored until spring without any problems. This beet is suitable for almost any climate conditions.
The Pablo F1 variety ripens the fastest – from 105 to 110 days.
Fruits: diameter – from 12 to 15 centimeters, weight – from 180 to 200 grams.
This beetroot is ideal for cooking, the flesh is ringless, sweet, the fruits are well stored in winter without losing their taste.
