Aphids are every gardener's nightmare. They occupy young shoots, suck out juices and transmit diseases.

But before you run out and grab some poison, take a look in your kitchen cupboard.

Regular baking soda can be your secret weapon.

Mix 2 tablespoons of soda with a liter of water and add a spoon of vegetable oil - the solution envelops the pests' bodies, disrupting their breathing. Spray the plants in the morning, and by evening the aphids will begin to disappear.

But remember: soda is alkaline, so do not use it more than once a week to avoid harming the soil.

And for prevention, plant mint or lavender next to the beds - their smell repels aphids better than any sprays. Goodbye, chemistry! The health of your garden is now in your hands.

But aphids are not the only pest that fears soda. Ants that carry aphids to plants also hate this powder.

Sprinkle the paths near the beds with soda mixed with powdered sugar (1:1) - the ants will eat the bait and die.

And if you add a little liquid soap to the soda solution, you will get a remedy against cabbage caterpillars. Spray the leaves, and the pests will disappear in a couple of days.

However, soda is not a panacea when it comes to garden and vegetable garden pests in general.

It is more effective to collect the Colorado potato beetle by hand or use an infusion of wormwood (300 g of grass per bucket of boiling water, leave for 12 hours).

And coffee helps against slugs. Dilute ground coffee in water (2 tablespoons per liter) and water the soil around the plants - caffeine paralyzes the mollusks.

But the main thing is to create an "uncomfortable" environment for pests in the garden. Plant repellent plants: marigolds, nasturtium, tansy. Attract ladybugs, which eat up to 100 aphids per day.

To do this, place small containers of water in the garden and lay out stones where insects can hide.

And don’t forget about crop rotation: change the places of the beds every year so that pests don’t have time to adapt.

And if the aphids still come back, give them a "bath day". Fill a basin with soapy water and gently dip the affected branches into it. The aphids are washed off, and the plant gets a dose of moisture.

Repeat every 3-4 days until the pests disappear. Remember: nature is wise, and even pests are part of its balance. Your task is not to destroy them completely, but to control their numbers.

And then your garden will become a fortress that no aphid will be able to take!
