These plants should never be planted next to hydrangeas: the flowers will get sick and wither.

You may not even realize that hydrangeas are highly selective about their neighbors.

If you plant an unsuitable plant near a bush, its former luxury will remain just a memory: some flowers, trees, vegetables and herbs require different care or soil type, while others even emit chemicals that are harmful to hydrangeas.

For example, you should keep thyme away from hydrangeas, which, unlike them, needs dry soil. At the level of humidity that hydrangeas require, thyme dies.

It also needs full sun, which is detrimental to the delicate petals and leaves of the hydrangea.

It is also not recommended to plant lavender near hydrangeas - this capricious flower is very demanding of the sun, soil moisture and air.

It is better if you create rocky, sandy conditions for lavender. Otherwise, it will turn yellow, brown, and its stems will break.

It goes without saying that this will not suit the hydrangea.

Marigolds, which want to receive as much sun as possible every day, will not get along with hydrangeas.

They also like drier places. If you put marigolds in the humid environment where hydrangeas grow, they will eventually die.

As for plants that are toxic to hydrangea, daffodils are the first to belong to them. Their roots are capable of producing a special substance that inhibits the growth of their "neighbors".

It displaces nearby plants and shrubs such as lilac.

It should also be taken into account that this plant needs well-drained soil, unlike hydrangea, which, we repeat, prefers moist soil.
