You won't get a good harvest of onions if the plant starts to shoot. Because the onion starts to spend energy on seed ripening, the bulb doesn't form.
This problem can be avoided at the planting stage.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" - a scientist, agronomist and landscape designer, told how to avoid the appearance of onion arrows.

So, as has already been said, the appearance of arrows can be prevented even at the sowing stage.
How to proceed
First, choose high-quality onion sets and store them properly.
It is believed that those bulbs that were stored at a temperature below +5 degrees Celsius will certainly bloom.
To prevent this from happening, two weeks before planting, leave the seed material in a room with an air temperature of 25-30 degrees Celsius.
A couple of days before planting, onion sets can be placed closer to heating devices.
Secondly, keep the interval and distance when landing.
The denser the bed is sown, the greater the risk that the onions will start to grow upward, which means the likelihood of bolting will increase.
Third, maintain a watering schedule.
Frequent watering does not promote active development of the root system and leads to the appearance of arrows.
And the last piece of advice concerns feeding.
Usually onions begin to grow upward due to active nitrogen fertilization.
As a result, only feathers and shoots grow in the garden bed, but normal bulbs cannot form.
