This advice was given by the President of the Association of Russian Florists, Valentina Safronova.
The expert revealed the secrets of a bouquet’s long life in a conversation with Moscow 24 .
How to extend the life of a bouquet
First, before placing the bouquet in a vase, you need to refresh the cut.
This must be done with a knife or pruning shears; scissors cannot be used.
The capillaries and vessels that feed the flower will simply be pinched, Safronova explained.
Secondly, you can use special preparations that prolong the life of flowers.
Of the home options, the most optimal is carbonated mineral water.
The carbon dioxide it contains helps the flowers live longer, the florist said.
The water should be changed regularly, it should not be cloudy. At the same time, you should wash the stems of the flowers and the vase and make another cut.
The expert also recommended placing flowers away from drafts, heating devices and apples. This fruit emits ethylene, which accelerates the wilting of flowers.
