Clothes should smell nice, be clean and fresh. However, different situations happen in life.
For example, housewives forgot to take washed clothes out of the washing machine or left wet clothes in a bag or somewhere else, forgetting to dry them.
As a result, clothes start to smell damp and musty, and become moldy. It is impossible to kill the stench with deodorants and perfumes.

Why does dampness appear?
As a rule, the reasons for the appearance of mustiness are associated with poor care, for example, improper drying, storing clean clothes together with dirty ones, lack of ventilation.
Dressers and cabinets are closed spaces where there is no air circulation.
With high humidity, in addition to an unpleasant smell, mold appears.
The reason for this is the remaining moisture and liquid in the washing machine drum.
Also, things and all linens can smell damp if there is high humidity in the house.
To restore your clothes to their former freshness and cleanliness, you don’t have to take them to the dry cleaners.
To begin with, it is recommended to apply the following tips:
1. Repeated washing. It is recommended to put wet and smelly items in the washing machine, add powder and mild detergent.
Then you need to set it to the “hot water” mode and pour 1-2 teaspoons of white vinegar into the container with the rinse aid, and start the washing process.
2. Drying clothes. After washing, you need to take the clothes outside (into the yard). This will prevent the smell from reappearing. If this is not suitable, you can dry the laundry at a high temperature, for example on a radiator.
3. Use of deodorants and fabric softeners.
Softeners and deodorizers without vinegar may temporarily mask the musty odor or worsen it and lead to mold growth.
Soda and vinegar
Experts note that in case of severe mustiness, soda diluted with vinegar is an effective remedy.
This composition should only be used in a washing machine.
Ammonia
Helps with a strong musty smell. For this you will need 10 liters of water and 1 tbsp. of alcohol.
If the items "smell" too much, you can soak them in the solution for 5 hours. But usually 2-3 hours is enough. After that, the items need to be rinsed thoroughly and washed in the usual way.
Hydrogen peroxide
Allows you to remove all natural odors, including musty, moldy, old juice, coffee and grass stains.
To remove all stains, you need 1 liter of water and 100 ml of peroxide. It is worth noting that you should soak things in the composition for no more than 15 minutes.
Salt
If the musty smell is not strong, you can use salt.
To remove stains, wet the clothes, rub with salt and leave for half an hour, then wash thoroughly.
Ammonia
Ammonia is toxic and therefore should only be used in a ventilated area or outdoors.
It is recommended to wash the laundry in a washing machine or by hand, but for this you will need extra-strong gloves. After the treated items must be washed with washing powder.
