People over 50 should reduce their consumption of red meat.
This advice was given by nutritionist and endocrinologist Oksana Mikhaleva.
The expert explained why this should be done in a conversation with the publication Gazeta.Ru .

Why You Should Eat Less Red Meat After Age 50
As Mikhaleva explained, this recommendation is given by the World Health Organization (WHO).
People over 50 should eat red meat no more than once a month.
According to the nutritionist, protein should be obtained from fish, white dietary meat, and dairy products.
There are several reasons. Firstly, red meat provokes the formation of carcinogens in the intestines, and with age, anti-cancer protection decreases.
Secondly, red meat accelerates the development of atherosclerosis and increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
Thirdly, red meat contains a lot of purines, which cause joint damage, urolithiasis and gout.
Fourth, red meat is more caloric, and with age, the tendency to gain weight increases.
People under 50, Mikhaleva clarified, can eat red meat once or twice a week.
But preferably not fried, not in the form of shashlik, and not in the form of meat gastronomy, the expert summed up.
